Is it really free, or is there a catch?
It is free, and the whole game is free. There is an optional VIP pass, but no timer that stops you playing, and nothing you have to buy to finish a match — every mode, every board and every seat is open from the first game. You do not enter card details to start, and you are not asked for them later to keep playing. What an account gets you is continuity rather than access: your level, your card collection and your friends follow you between sessions instead of being lost when you close the tab.
Do I need an account to play?
You sign in with a one-tap magic link sent to your email — there is no long sign-up form and no password to remember. An account lets you keep your friends, level and progress between games and rejoin a board if your connection drops.
Can I play with friends — or against bots?
Both, and you can mix them in the same game. Create a room, send the link, and your friends join from their own phones or computers wherever they are — no app to install on their side either. If you are short of people, add bots — each plays at its own level, easy, medium or hard — and they buy, build, mortgage, bid in auctions and propose trades, so a two-human table with two bots plays like a real four-player game. Most tables end up mixed. You can also play entirely with friends and leave the bots out.
How many people can play: 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6
Any number from 2 to 6, in every mode but Team. Two is the quickest way to finish a real game and the rules lose nothing — the auction still runs, jail still works, and the first complete colour set usually decides it; see 2-player games for how the table sizes compare. Three or four is the classic feel, where competition for sets makes trading matter. Five or six is the long, chaotic session. Team games use an even table, so 2v2 needs four seats and 3v3 needs six.
Does it work on mobile, and in every browser?
Yes to both. It runs in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on iPhone, Android, iPad, Windows and Mac, and the board is built for a phone screen rather than shrunk down to fit one. You do not need to download an app on any of them, though you can add opolyx to your home screen and launch it like one if you prefer. The same room works across devices at once, so somebody on a laptop and somebody on a phone can sit at the same table without either of them being at a disadvantage.
How long does an online Monopoly game take?
Far less than the cardboard version, and you can choose how much less. Blitz is a complete game on a round cap of about fifteen minutes, which is why it is the mode a new player starts in. Classic runs longer and ends when everyone else is bankrupt. Speed sits between them with a third die, an earlier rent tax and a mortgage timer. Those are not estimates from the box: game length has been measured across thousands of games, and a two-player Classic game finishes considerably sooner than a four-player one even though it takes more rounds.
Frequently asked questions
Is opolyx really free to play?
Yes. You can create a room, add friends or bots, and play a full Monopoly-style game for free, with no download or purchase required.
Can I play Monopoly online without downloading anything?
Yes. opolyx runs in your web browser, so there is nothing to install on your phone or computer — just open the page and start a game.
Can I play with friends online?
Yes. Create a private room and share the link. Your friends join from their own devices, anywhere in the world, and you all play on the same board in real time.
How many people can play?
From 2 to 6 players per game, in every mode (Team takes four or six). You can also play team games of two or three a side, or fill empty seats with bots.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. opolyx works in mobile browsers on iPhone and Android, and you can add it to your home screen to launch it like an app.
Can I play without signing in?
You need an account, but there is no sign-up form to fill in: enter your email, get a one-time code, and you are in. There is no password to invent or remember, and no card details at any point. The account is what keeps your level, cards and friends between sessions and lets you rejoin a board if your connection drops mid-game.
Can I play against the computer instead of people?
Yes. Fill any or all of the empty seats with bots and start immediately, without waiting for anyone. Bots come in easy, medium and hard, and they play the full game rather than a simplified one: they buy, build, mortgage, bid against you in auctions and offer you trades.
Can just two people play?
Yes. Set the room to two seats and play one-on-one, or set a bigger table and fill the spare seats with bots for a busier board. Two players is the fastest way to finish a complete game.
Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, in current versions, on both desktop and mobile. There is no plugin and no Flash — it is ordinary web technology, so anything modern will run it.
Does it work on Android?
Yes, in any mobile browser on Android, and on iPhone and iPad the same way. You can also add it to your home screen so it opens full-screen like an installed app.
How long does a game take?
Blitz finishes a whole game inside roughly fifteen minutes on a round cap. Classic runs until everyone else is bankrupt and takes longer. Speed lands between the two. A smaller table finishes sooner in real time than a larger one.
Is this classic Monopoly?
It is the classic property-trading game: a 40-square board, colour sets, houses and hotels, rent, auctions, jail, Chance and trading between players. opolyx is an independent game inspired by that genre and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any board-game brand or its trademark holders.
How is it different from other free Monopoly sites?
Four things, concretely: every roll and payment is verified on the server rather than in your browser, so a game cannot be fudged; there are six modes including a fifteen-minute Blitz; tables seat two to six with bots that play the full ruleset; and the whole site is translated rather than English-only.
Will it work on a school or work network?
Usually. It runs entirely in the browser over ordinary HTTPS with nothing to install, so it works on most networks where app downloads and installers are blocked. A network that blocks games by category can still block it, which no website can do anything about.
