Fast Monopoly Online — Speed Mode With a Third Die
opolyx gives you a genuinely fast Monopoly-style game online. Speed mode adds a third die that pushes you around the board, keeps turns to about 45 seconds, and lets a lucky triple teleport you anywhere. Add bots and pick fewer players for a short game — all free in your browser.
A full Monopoly-style game has a reputation for dragging on for hours. opolyx fixes that with Speed mode: a faster pace, a third “Speed die” that moves you further and quicker, uneven building, and a mortgage timer that keeps cash flowing. Pair it with bots and a smaller table and you can finish a satisfying game in a fraction of the usual time — no download, right in the browser.
What makes opolyx fast
- Speed mode — roughly 45-second turns keep the game moving and stop anyone stalling.
- A third Speed die that adds to your move, teleports you, or sends you hunting for property.
- Uneven building, so you can rush a colour set to houses and hotels without waiting to build evenly.
- A mortgage timer — in Speed a mortgaged street auto-releases after about 10 rounds, so money keeps moving.
- Smart bots fill empty seats instantly, so you never wait for a table to fill up.
- Fewer players means fewer turns to wait through — pick 2 or 3 seats for the quickest games.
What is the Speed die?
The Speed die is a third die that joins the usual two from a few rounds into a Speed game. It is the heart of fast play: alongside its number faces, it adds two special faces that can fling you across the board. Here is what each result does.
- 1Number faces (1–3)
A number on the Speed die simply adds to the total of your two regular dice, so you cover more ground every turn and lap the board faster.
- 2The Bus face
Roll the Bus and you choose how far to move — take the sum of the two regular dice, or just one of them. It lets you steer toward a property you want or away from a rival’s hotel.
- 3The X / Mr. Monopoly face
After your normal move, the X face sends you to the nearest unowned property to buy it — or, if everything ahead is taken, to the nearest property owned by an opponent, where you pay rent. Either way you skip straight to the action.
- 4A triple
Roll the same value on all three dice and you teleport to any space on the board, then roll again. A well-timed triple can grab the last street of a colour set in a single turn.
Classic or Speed — which should I pick?
Choose your pace when you create a room. Classic keeps the traditional rhythm — even building, permanent mortgages and no third die — for a longer, strategic session. Speed turns up the tempo with the Speed die, uneven building, the mortgage timer and shorter turns. Both are free and use the same board and rules otherwise.
| Classic | Speed | |
|---|---|---|
| Pace | Traditional | Fast, ~45-second turns |
| Third Speed die | No | Yes, after a few rounds |
| Building | Even building | Uneven building allowed |
| Mortgages | Permanent until repaid | Auto-release after ~10 rounds |
| Best for | A full, strategic game | A quick, lively game |
What actually ends a long game
Speed and Blitz shorten a game at the front; two rules finish it at the back. From round 40 in Speed — and much later in Classic — rent starts being taxed: the tenant still pays in full, but a growing share of the money leaves the game instead of reaching the owner, climbing to 99%. That drains cash out of circulation and forces a result instead of an endless stalemate. Blitz never gets there — it simply stops at 25 rounds, and the biggest net worth wins. Both rules are spelled out in the full rulebook.
Can I play Monopoly against bots or AI?
Yes. opolyx has smart bots you can drop into any game, with easy, medium and hard difficulty and distinct playing styles — some hoard cash, some build aggressively, some bargain hard in trades. Add bots to start solo straight away, to fill empty seats, or to practise Speed mode before you bring friends in. Because bots never keep you waiting, a board full of bots is one of the fastest ways to play.
Fast team and short games
You can tailor how a game plays without any house-rule editor. Run a team game of two or three a side where partners share a goal, set the table to 2 to 6 players, mix in bots, and choose any of the six modes. The quickest games tend to be Speed mode with two or three seats and a couple of bots — fewer turns to wait, more dice in the air, and the Speed die doing the rest.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play a fast game of Monopoly online?
Open opolyx in your browser, create a room, choose Speed mode, pick a small table of 2 or 3 seats, and add bots so it starts instantly. The third die and shorter turns keep everything moving.
What is the Speed die?
The Speed die is a third die used in Speed mode. Its number faces add to your move, the Bus face lets you choose how far to go, the X face sends you to the nearest property, and a triple lets you teleport anywhere and roll again.
How do I make Monopoly faster?
Pick Speed mode rather than Classic, play with fewer people, and fill seats with bots so nobody slows the game down. Speed adds the third die, uneven building and a mortgage timer that all speed things up.
Can I play Monopoly against bots or AI?
Yes. You can add smart bots to any opolyx game, with easy, medium and hard difficulty and different playing styles, so you can play solo or fill empty seats and start right away.
Can I play 2v2 team Monopoly online?
Yes. opolyx has a Team mode where two sides of two or three players compete. You can add bots to a team game too; it plays on Classic’s rules.
Is the fast mode free?
Yes. Speed mode, Classic mode, team play and bots are all free at opolyx. There is nothing to download and no ads — just open the browser and play.
Does rent get cheaper in a long game?
Not for the tenant — they always pay the full amount. But once a game runs long the rent is taxed on its way to the owner, and a rising share of it leaves the game instead of being collected, up to 99%. It starts at round 40 in Speed and much later in Classic. Blitz ends at 25 rounds, before the tax ever applies.
