Halal Monopoly Online — No Interest, No Gambling
Halal mode is opolyx’s Monopoly-style game with the interest and the gambling taken out. It plays on Classic’s board and economy, but there are no dice bets, a mortgage is bought back at par, and a VIP buys a property on credit with a fixed, agreed mark-up — a murabaha — rather than borrowing at interest. It is free, in your browser.

A classic Monopoly-style game leans on two things many players would rather avoid: interest (riba) and games of chance for money (maysir). Halal mode removes both, without changing the game you already know. The board is the same canonical 40 squares, the money, the clock, the round cap and the rent tax are Classic’s, and you still buy property, charge rent, build and trade. Only the handful of rules that touch interest or a wager are changed.
What makes this Monopoly game halal
- No dice bets — the Jackpot corner becomes a plain rest square, so there is no wager anywhere on the board (maysir).
- A mortgage is bought back at par — you repay exactly what it paid out, with no premium (riba).
- A VIP buys property on credit by murabaha — a fixed, agreed mark-up set at the sale — instead of a loan that charges interest.
- Three Chance cards are re-themed away from lottery winnings; their effect and amount are unchanged.
No interest (riba)
Two places in a normal game charge what amounts to interest, and both are changed. Buying a mortgaged street back from the bank costs a premium in Classic; in Halal you repay exactly the mortgage value, no more. And where a VIP would take a bank loan — borrow now, repay more later — a Halal room offers a murabaha instead, below. Taking an interest loan is simply not a legal move in this mode.
The murabaha — buying property on credit
A murabaha is a cost-plus sale: the price and the mark-up are both agreed and fixed at the moment of purchase, and never grow afterwards. In a Halal room a VIP who lands on an unowned property can take it now and owe its list price plus a fixed 20% mark-up, due within 15 rounds. You can settle it early on your turn. It is the halal counterpart of the Classic bank loan, and it is a VIP add-on — the game itself is free either way.
- 1Land on an unowned property
As a VIP in a Halal room, when you land on a property nobody owns you can buy it outright, or buy it on credit by murabaha.
- 2Agree the price and the mark-up
Choose the murabaha and you take the property now, owing its list price plus a fixed 20% mark-up. Both figures are set at the sale and do not change.
- 3Repay within the term
The amount is due within 15 rounds. When it comes due, your turn opens with a “pay” pause for the agreed total — the same honest-bankruptcy pause as any other debt.
- 4Settle early if you like
On your own turn, before you roll, you can pay the murabaha off early. There is only ever one outstanding at a time.
No gambling (maysir)
In Classic the third corner is a Jackpot square: land there and you can stake cash on a dice roll for a bank-funded payout. That is a game of chance for money, so in Halal the corner is a quiet rest square — landing on it does nothing, like Just Visiting, and the bet never opens. The board feed names it a rest field, and it cannot be renamed into a betting square.
What stays exactly the same
Halal is an edition of Classic, not a different game. The board, the starting cash, the turn clock, the 500-round cap and the rent tax that ends long games are all Classic’s — the engine holds them equal by test. You buy property, form colour groups, build houses and hotels, pay rent, go to jail, draw Chance, trade, and win by bankrupting everyone else or holding the most when the cap is reached. Only interest and the wager are gone.

Halal Monopoly — frequently asked questions
What makes this Monopoly game halal?
Two things are removed: interest (riba) — a mortgage is repaid at par and a VIP buys on credit by murabaha rather than an interest loan — and gambling (maysir) — the Jackpot dice-bet corner becomes a plain rest square.
Is Halal mode free to play?
Yes. Like every mode at opolyx it is free in your browser, with no download. The murabaha is a VIP add-on, but you can play a full Halal game without paying anything.
What is a murabaha in the game?
A cost-plus sale. A VIP can take an unowned property now and owe its list price plus a fixed 20% mark-up, agreed at the sale and due within 15 rounds. Nothing accrues; it is the halal counterpart of the bank loan.
Can I still mortgage property in Halal mode?
Yes — mortgaging works as usual to raise cash. The only change is that buying the mortgage back costs exactly what it paid out, with no premium.
How is Halal different from Classic?
It plays on Classic’s board, cash, clock, round cap and rent tax. Only the rules that touch interest or a wager change: no Jackpot bet, par mortgage buy-back, re-themed Chance cards, and a murabaha instead of an interest loan.
